There Is No Progress In Comfort Zones
Another week filled with some key principles
of entrepreneurship. There are a number
of keys standouts this week I would like to share. One key aspect I want to work on is being
optimistic even when things are not going as I planned them to. It was really insightful to watch the Acton
Hero video on Desh Deshpande. I have
found these short videos to be impactful, especially this one. Keeping your head up and focused on your
goals even when things are at there worst.
If you persevere though these times you really find out who you are and
grow during these times. Also, as stated
in the video, as you feel more comfortable with going through difficulties they
are less likely to have an impact on you.
I enjoy my reading of E-myth this
week. Some really intriguing
pronouncements in my readings about the different levels of starting a
business; going from infancy to adolescence and developing to maturity. One of the statements that have stuck in my
head throughout the week was by Tom Watson Sr..
He said something to the effect that at IBM they spent their time
focused not on doing business but developing their business. “We don’t do business, we build one.” I love that.
That is quite a powerful statement.
Previously I thought it was important to come up with a great product
and people will come flocking to your business but Watson Sr.’s it is the
customer that the business was created for and not the product.
Things with my $100 Challenge are going
well. I have chosen to do custom-made
drift wood sculptures. I currently have
5 completed and hope to have another 5 finished at the end of this week. I have sent out some e-mail to people letting
them know about the project and that more info will be coming shortly. I will be selling them for $55 each plus
shipping so I have a goal of selling each one for a total of $550. I look forward to seeing how this develops
over the next few weeks.
Finally, I was listening to a podcast and
someone quoted someone else, I didn’t catch the name but they said, “There is
no progress in comfort zones”. I really
like that and wanted to post it to remember it.
